Kohimarama Yacht Club
What - Kohimarama Yacht Club is a youth yacht club dedicated to introducing young people to sailing, and training them to love and excel at the sport. Classes sailed include the Optimist (for the Learn to Sail course), P Class, Starling, Splash, the 29er (for experienced sailors) as well as the Techno Board.
Who – Boys and girls from aged 9 years (some capable children can start at 8 years). All children must be able to swim. They also need to own a life jacket, have warm clothing for the boat, and if doing the Learn to Sail course, they need their own Optimist, or they can charter one from the club.
When – The Club’s open day is Sunday 11th October and Learn to Sail and Learn to Race programmes start the following weekend on Sunday 18th October. Courses are on Sundays and take approximately 10 weeks. Briefing for the courses is at 9.30am each week and the Learn to Sail is normally finished by 3.00pm.
Where – Tamaki Drive, Kohimarama, on the water’s edge.

The Royal Akarana Yacht Club (RAYC)
What – The Royal Akarana Yacht Club runs a sailing academy offering sailing lessons for any age.
Who - Boys and girls from 8 years of age and starting in Optimists dinghies. The RAYC supplies the boats, lifejackets etc and have a team of qualified coaches.
When – The courses are held in terms 1 and 4 during the year – on week nights from 4 - 7pm and in the weekends from 9am - 12noon. Included in the course fee is a junior membership to the club. The RAYC also runs holiday programmes based around water activities.
Where –10 Tamaki Drive, Okahu Bay - next to the new Orakei marina.
